What is Page Rank?

Google Page Rank is a ranking system and algorithm for measuring a web page’s rank in relation to the rest of the Web. It measures a webpage on a 0-10 scale (with ten being highest or best possible Page Rank).

The specific details of how Page Rank is calculated and determined aren’t made completely public, but it is generally related to the number of high Page Rank back links to a particular site. In other words, the more high Page Rank back links you have, the higher your Page Rank is likely to be.

PageRank is not an accurate indicator of a website’s popularity.

Determined to regulate the buying and selling of Page Rank through paid links and incentivized link schemes, Page Rank can also be de-merited or reduced through manual intervention on behalf of Google. As a result, Page Rank is not an accurate indicator and can only be thought of as a general guide.

In general, a sustainably high Page Rank is almost guaranteed to be a popular website, but a website can still be favorably ranked and get a lot of traffic with very low Page Rank.

What is White Hat SEO?

White Hat SEO is a casual term for using professional conduct in while engaging in SEO.

Using professional, appropriate conduct in search engine optimization means following the laws, regulations, and common online ethics of search engine optimization. SEO consultants might argue over the details of what constitutes white hat SEO instead of grey hat SEO, but white hat SEO practices certainly rules out any illegal behavior.

In simple terms, you could say that to many professionals white hat SEO means “earning your results”. Anything that might be frowned upon in the normal business world can probably be translated to online business as well.

If it’s questionable, chances are it’s not white hat.

What are back links?

Exactly what are back links? Are all links considered back links?

A back link is a hyperlink to your website. It is called a back link because it is an incoming link to your website from another domain or subdomain. Back links are an important term in SEO due to their influence on search engine performance. Having a lot of good back links from popular, high-quality and relevant websites can significantly help your positioning in search engine results.

What is keyword density?

Keyword density refers to the number of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page. Usually the keyword density is calculated after stripping all HTML, JavaScript and other markup, much like a search engine spider views your site.

What are search engine friendly URLs?

Search engine friendly URLs, also called friendly URLs or tidy URLs, are well-formatted URLs. What makes a friendly URL “well-formed”? Search engine friendly URLs are human-readable, easy for search engines to interpret, use minimal dynamic URL parameters, generally contain related keywords, and should be designed to be permanent whenever possible.

What is Black Hat SEO?

In the study and profession of search engine optimization, black hat SEO is a term for illegal or extremely invasive techniques to manipulate search engine results.

An example of a black hat SEO method is hacking a website script to get free links against the knowledge and will of the site owner. Some SEO consultants might classify exploiting web scripts as grey hat, or moderately acceptable, but they are an exception.

It is never professional to engage in such methods in the business world. There are no perfectly clear boundaries for black hat techniques, but black hat SEO is mainly a loose term for illegal or borderline activities to get a website higher in search results.

What is Search Engine Optimization

SEO is an abbreviation for “Search Engine Optimization” Many SEOs provide useful services for website owners, from writing copy to giving advice on site architecture and helping to find relevant directories to which a site can be submitted. However, there are a few unethical SEOs who have given the industry a black eye through their overly aggressive marketing efforts and their attempts to unfairly manipulate search engine results.

While the Search Engines do not have relationships with any SEOs and does not offer recommendations, we do have a few tips that may help you distinguish between an SEO that will improve your site and one that will only improve your chances of being dropped from search engine results altogether.

Be wary of SEO firms that send you email out of the blue.

Amazingly, we some times got these spam emails :

“Dear ; I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories…” Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search engines as you do for requests to help transfer funds from deposed dictators.

No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google, AOL, MSN, YAHOO or any other search engine?

SEO compaines that claim to guarantee rankings is rare, but when one of these smoothe talking salespeople starts telling you about a guarantee be sure to ask for it in writing. Or if they claim a “special relationship” with Search Engine Companies, or that claim to have a “priority submit” to Search Engine Companies rest assured you better run fast. There is no priority submit for Search Engine Companies, just a lot of hard work with part science and part art. Google clearly states in their Guidelines: “Beware of SEOs that claim to have a relationship with us, they don’t, or if they allege a “special relationship” with Google, or advertise a “priority submit” to Google it’s just not true. There is no priority submit for Google, in fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever.” Only Goal Clicks provides for a complete guarantee or you don’t pay. Your monthly maintenance fee only starts when we meet or contractual agreement.

Be careful if a company is secretive or won’t clearly explain what they intend to do

Ask for explanations if something is unclear. If an SEO creates deceptive or misleading content on your behalf, such as doorway pages or “throwaway” domains, your site could be removed entirely from all Search Engine Companies index. Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions of any companies you hire, so it’s best to be sure you know exactly how they intend to “help” you.

Some SEOs may try to sell you the ability to type keywords directly into the browser address bar

Most such proposals require users to install extra software, and very few users do so. Evaluate such proposals with extreme care and be skeptical about the self-reported.

Be sure to understand where the money goes

Many Search Engine Companies combine pay-per-click or pay-for-inclusion results with their regular web search results. Some SEO’s will promise to rank you highly in search engines, but place you in the advertising section of the engine rather than in search results. A few SEO’s will even change their bid prices in real time to create the illusion that they “control” other search engines and can place themselves in the slot of their choice. This scam does not work, but be sure to ask any SEO you’re considering which fees go toward permanent inclusion and which apply toward temporary advertising. Goal Clicks only optimizes your website, your URL. Goal Clicks clients are always in total control.

Get References / Request a Goal Clicks Guarantee

References are a good start, but they don’t tell the whole story. You should ask how long a company has been in business and how many full time staffers it employs. If you feel pressured or uneasy, go with your gut feeling and play it safe: hold off until you find a firm that you can trust.

If you feel you were deceived by an SEO in some way, you may want to report it
